Creamy Crack VS. Kinky Naps

One of the biggest debates to date in the black community. The battle between relaxed and natural hair has only escalated due to the rise of females doing the big chop. I do feel like this is a huge trend to be proud of. I think all of the natural hair blogs have definitely influenced many women because they are more educated on how to maintain their hair. However, I do not like the natural hair "snobs" who think they're better or more Afrocentric because they choose not to relax their hair. Right now I'm in between stages and deciding which way to go is harder than I thought. I haven't relaxed my hair since January. Mostly because I colored it in April and I don't want it to break off. Black girls, what do you chose and why? Do you think relaxed hair is more "acceptable" society?

  1. i dont think its more acceptable i think black girls just want to be able to get that care free texture to theire hair like all the other races! am too a fan of natural hair and i think its the persons decision on what they choose. all hir is beautiful as long as you ROCK it!

  2. Most ppl find textured hair easier to manage. I know especially in the summer ppl can't deal with the humidity and it's affects on our hair. I'm going natural to grow my hair out, but when I did perms and stuff it did nothing bad to my hair, but some are for natural and some not.

  3. I don't think it's more acceptable. I for one am a fan of NATURAL HAIR, but I am not a fan of those who bash chicks with perms. Natural hair has become a fad.. so...

  4. I prefer the CREAMY CRACK look over Kinky Naps.

I have coolie hair, so I textured 3-4 times a hair, I usually wear my hair curly like Vashtie or wear it straight.

Personally, I think 'whites' respect you more and you're considered more mainstream with straight hair.

It's just preference, and I prefer the whole sexy, vixen, bombshell look over nappy, natural, afrocentric

  5. Beyonce's WEAVE is how many years old? Cute but ... old. I have the utmost respect for her sister, who has gone all natural. To do that in the public eye, and in a society where white-Anglo-European dominates the ideal image of beauty, is beautiful and courageous. And she looks damn good.

  6. I think that everybody looks good, when feels good, so if you like yourself, and you are convinced that you look great - others will think just the same!

  7. I recently big chopped and I've never felt better. I've wanted to do it for years, but couldn't figure out how to care for my natural hair. Now that there's a plethora of information and products for natural hair, a lot of women are going that route.

I honestly feel that relaxed and natural hair are both equally acceptable in this day and age. People are becoming more open-minded and less judgmental (in some aspects, lol).

It's all about preference and what feels right to you. I'm not into women bashing other women because of what they choose to do to their hair. It's silly.

  8. I don't feel it is more acceptable versus more mainstream. This is the second time I chose to grow my natural hair out. I think all women would prefer natural hair if it was as manageable as perms. My hair has been permed since age 14. I think many women perm their hair for more manageability than anything else.

  9. You can never go wrong with natural. It's what men appreciate the most too.

  10. I agree with Mimi, you can never go wrong with natural and I think this is how a woman feels most comfortable with herself! Good Luck!

  11. Natural always beats fake, no matter what. Take it from a guy's perspective!

  12. Regardless of whether your hair is relaxed or "natural" If it's growing out of your SCALP, it's NOT FAKE. The point is to have healthy, well cared for hair. Healthy, natural hair is certainly beautiful, but natural hair does not automatically equal healthy, beautiful, hair. Relaxed hair can also be beautiful and healthy if properly taken care of. Why must black folk always find ways to divide ourselves? The journey to self-acceptance is a very personal one.

  13. Well said @Anonymous. I've been natural for 6 yrs, and I absolutely don't miss getting perms. As a child, my mother always took me to the hair salon to get my hair done.I just had REALLY bad experiences with perms. When I did get perms as an adult, I found myself spending more money in the salon, and I didn't know how to properly take care of my hair. I did the big chop, and I took the time to study my hair, and care for it.I rock my hair straight,and/or kinky. Just wear your hair the way YOU want to. Who cares what society thinks and says *they can kick rocks*
